Hopes for big hits in short game

Local cricketers get a chance to represent the Cayman Islands in Florida when they play five T20 games in Florida soon at the

Americas Division 1 Championship.

The tournament runs from 18-24 July and Cayman will play Canada, USA, Bermuda, Argentina and Suriname. The tournament is extremely important for cricket in the Cayman Islands because it also serves as a qualifying event for the World T20 qualifiers in Dubai early next year.

Steve Gordon is the most in-form batsman at present and the evergreen Pearson Best continues to rack up the runs. Kervin Ebanks has improved with the bat and Kevin Bazil is the most reliable all-rounder.

They placed third in the previous T20 Americas tournament in Bermuda last year and captain Abali Hoilett is expecting to repeat that performance at the very least.

The individual performances of the squad have been extremely balanced and consistent this year, he said and they are hoping to capitalise on that. He hopes to be able to inspire and unlock the team’s potential and lead Cayman to victory and subsequently Dubai.

Cayman squad: Kevin Bazil, Steve Gordon, Kervin Ebanks, Conroy Wright, Troy Taylor, Omar Willis, Zachary McLaughlin, Pearson Best, Ricardo Roach, Alessandro Morris, Ramon Sealy, Patrick McConvey and Abali Hoilett.
