Olympic swim hero Brett Fraser is in Cayman for a few days.
Fraser, a world-class swimmer and one of Cayman’s main sports ambassadors, is home for rest and relaxation with two of his peers.
This Thursday 11 August Brett will be at the Royal Palms 5-7pm for a casual get-together. At that time residents will get an opportunity to see, congratulate and wish him well. Easy-going Brett has always been great with younger kids so younger swim fans are welcome.
Visiting Cayman with Brett are Rodian Davelaar and Robbie Hayes. Davelaar, from Curacao, came up through the CARIFTA competition and won the Landon von Kanel award when he was 12. Hayes, a versatile Florida State swimmer, is a record holder with a double major who has aspirations for London 2012.
Brett is coming off a phenomenal year both athletically and academically. A hard-working student-athlete at the University of Florida, Fraser was named an Academic All American and won the 200m free during the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships. Recently he qualified for the London 2012 Olympics in two events (200m Free and 50 Free).
Brother Shaune Fraser, who also qualified for the 2012 Olympics, is in Colorado for altitude training. A big year of training is ahead for both Frasers with their next major competition being the Pan Am Games in October in Guadalajara, Mexico.
