Man killed in diving accident ID’d

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has identified a diver from Pennsylvania, USA, who died here last week as 64-year-old John Bonner.

At about 11am Wednesday, police were informed Mr. Bonner experienced difficulties and lost consciousness while boarding a vessel after completing a dive in East End.

Police said the man was here on holiday diving with a family member when the incident occurred. He was brought on board the vessel with the assistance of staff from the resident dive company at the Reef Resort.

RCIPS had earlier reported the man was on a dive with Reef Divers, but the dive company he was with has no connection to that operation, which is based in the Sister Islands.

The dive company staff administered CPR until the arrival of ambulance personnel.

RCIPS officers said Mr. Bonner was taken to Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
