NYU-bound student wins Butterfield scholarship

The winner of the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship for 2011 is Heather Harris, who plans to study journalism and art therapy at New York University.

“We are absolutely delighted to award the 2011 Butterfield Undergraduate scholarship to Heather Harris. Every year it gets tougher and tougher to select the top candidate and this year was no different,” said Butterfield’s Senior Manager, Human Resources Elizabeth Depledge.

Each year, the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to a student who has secured a place at a reputable university and has a track record of strong academic ability, community involvement and proven leadership qualities. The scholarship supports the recipient for four years of study with up to US$40,000 awarded per year.

Miss Harris, who also plans to pursue master’s-level studies in journalism and art therapy, intends to return to Cayman upon graduation and establish herself as a journalist.

“We were extremely impressed and proud of Heather’s accomplishments, determination, humble disposition and pure drive to achieve the best she can achieve. We look forward to Heather’s development and growth when she returns to Cayman,” Ms Depledge said.
