Local firm Mourant Ozannes is giving a sizeable sponsorship to Academy football club.
The company will aid Academy Sports Club in their efforts for 2011 with a financial gift of CI$5,000. Academy is gearing up for another school year of team development and games following their return from the Schwan Cup in Minneapolis this summer.
Mourant Ozannes Partner Hector Robinson states Academy is a worthy recipient of the funds.
“We like the focus of the club, as highlighted in their motto ‘The books and the Ball, you’ve got it all,” Robinson said. “The young players were extremely polite and attentive during our recent visit to their practice. The discipline that went far beyond their football skills was clear.”
News of the Mourant sponsorship comes after a number of Academy players excelled at the annual Dutch summer football camp. PSV Eindhoven coach Roy Wilhelm stated he was impressed with a number of Academy talents such as Matthew Guitard.
The Academy Sports Club is a youth development programme aimed at combining solid technical football development, within the context of focused academic success and character development. The team’s motto highlights the emphasis placed not only on football development, but academic success.
Head Coach Virgil Seymour, a former Cayman national defender, noted that when necessary players are required to submit report cards and that the coaches are in regular contact with teachers.
