New rooftop gym for Caribbean Club

The Caribbean Club resort is improving its tourist offering with the addition of what may be the highest gym in the Cayman Islands.

The new facility is currently being constructed in the roof area of the resort, said Danielle Wolfe of the boutique residence hotel.

“It is going to be on the seventh floor, fully enclosed and around 1,500 square feet in size. There will be spin bikes, treadmills, free weights and so on. We want to always be improving and keep ourselves up with what is important to our clientele. In the current environment, health has become a big issue so the more we can do to promote that, the better,” Ms Wolfe said.

The current downstairs gymnasium area may be reworked to create a space which could be utilised as a meetings facility for around 50 people, she said.

“We want to be done by the end of December and preliminary work started on 1 August,” she noted.

Times Square

The club was also prominently displayed in the heart of New York City, with an advertisement running on the electronic billboard in Times Square this Labor Day weekend.

“We were approached to go on these very large screens; one is about Disney and there are two other screens. Caribbean Club is running in conjunction with Caymankind, pictures of the destination, which was kind of fun,” Ms Wolfe said. “There is a lot of traffic through Times Square of course and we felt that Caymankind was a strong message to incorporate. You have five seconds at a time, every hour, and Cayman is recognisable as a word so we localised it.”

The resort has experienced a strong showing in weddings this year and makes a point of flying the country flag of the bride and groom wherever possible.

“Somebody wanted an Indian flag which was probably one of the furthest destinations,” she said. “We have become one of the prime destinations for weddings; you can have an environment where you can sit together with your friends and not have to search for locations or places to spend the rest of your time. People book weddings a year ahead or more and we have had requests for 2013 already. When the financial downturn came people thought about getting away even more, combining vacations with weddings. Maybe they’d reduce the amount of people who’d come but spending time with the people close to the bride and groom remained very attractive for them.”
