Miss Cayman may be the centre of attention but local racers hope to swerve around the pageantry.
This month’s autocross meet takes place this Saturday, 24 September at 7pm. Titled Time Attack, the race is put on by the Cayman Motorsports Association and is slated to go off at the Progressive loop in George Town.
Interestingly the Saturday race is one of the rare meets to take place at night this year. Most events are day-time affairs and in recent months the emphasis has been on Sunday afternoon racing.
September’s event comes after a solid showing last month. A.J. Conolly debuted his Mitsubishi Evolution VIII to rave reviews as it was a contender in both the All Wheel Drive category and the Street Battle (i.e. championship) run. A number of the usual competitors were also out including Jimel McLean in his Honda Civic.
Buzz around Saturday’s race is centred on the fight for the Unlimited division crown.
Old foes Keith P. Tibbetts III and Bobby Hulse are slated to slug it out. Tibbetts III normally runs the Valvoline Subaru Impreza Sti while Hulse sports his usual Toyota Altezza.
Mandatory registration is this Friday, 23 September, at 7pm at Parkers.
