A diverse group of companies has lined up to support the Fourth Annual Breast Cancer Foundation Gala Dinner, to be held 15 October at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
“This is our largest fundraising event of the year, and the purpose is to raise funds for breast cancer awareness locally and in support of patients who need assistance, through the Cancer Society and Lions Club of Tropical Gardens,” Foundation Director Kim Lund said.
The first gala dinner was held in 2008 in honour of the 10th anniversary of the passing of Mr. Lund’s wife Brenda Tibbetts Lund, after her battle with breast cancer. Originally intended to be a one-time event, the success of the first event led to its becoming an annual fundraiser. In fall 2009, the Foundation was established by Mr. Lund and James Bovell (who are brokers/owners of RE/MAX Cayman Islands), along with attorney John Broadbent.
In 2010, the event drew more than 500 supporters and raised more than $100,000.. Tickets are already sold out. Mr. Lund credited “the incredible support from the community” for making the gala dinner a reality each year.
“It’s because of that support year after year that we’re getting from the corporate sponsors, as well as from the community as a whole, that gives us the energy to continue making this an annual event,” he said.
The event includes a champagne reception, three-course meal, live and silent auctions, and entertainment.
This year’s Platinum Sponsors, for a donation of $10,000, include Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital, Maples and Calder, and RE/MAX. Other sponsors and partners include CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Cayman First Insurance, Scotiabank, The Water Authority, Zolfo Cooper, The Caymanian Compass, Celebrations, The Ritz-Carlton, Rooster FM, WestStar TV, American Airlines, Bona Fide Cayman, FSH Design, Intec Research Production Services, Otis Air Conditioning, Singrays and Lapostolle Winery.
