Jeffers chooses trial by judge alone

Murder charge dates from 2009

Raziel Omar Jeffers, 27, appeared in Grand Court on Friday and elected to be tried by judge alone for murder.

The charge relates to the fatal shooting of Marcus Leon Ebanks, who was 20 at the time.

He was killed on the evening of 8 July, 2009, on Bonaventure Road in
West Bay.

The charge against Jeffers first came to Summary Court in May 2010 and has had several mentions in Grand Court. On Friday, Justice Richard Williams received confirmation that Jeffers now has legal representation, so a trial date could be set.

Defence Attorney Peter Champagnie, who was instructed by Attorney Peter Polack, agreed to a four-week trial scheduled to start on 16 January, 2012.

The Department of Public Prosecutions was represented by Crown Counsel Candia James.
