Cayman Fashion Solstice:
A glamour-filled weekend

A number of international celebrities from the fashion world will be arriving in the Cayman Islands next week, adding an extra dash of glamour and style to the upcoming fashion event of the year, the Cayman Fashion Solstice.

Local fashionistas, models and designers will be mingling with celebrity guests hosts, supermodels and internationally acclaimed designers over four days of parties, fashion shows, boat trips and more.

The event, organised by Guavaberry Marketing, is in its second year, and runs from Thursday, 20 October, to Sunday, 23 October. An impressive lineup of fashion-related events has been set for the long weekend, which the organiser hopes will catch the attention of an international clientele as well as locally based fashion devotees.

Cayman Fashion Solstice was conceived as a means of showcasing local and international fashion designers and models through a series of parties, casting calls, pop-up stores and galas.

A number of related events, including parties, casting calls and model workshops have taken place over recent months in preparation for this event.

Organisers hope that by appealing to a wider international audience, who will be drawn not only by the natural beauty, fine dining and party atmosphere, but also to the style and sophistication of the Islands, the event will prove a significant boost to the tourism industry.

“We plan to make this year’s event another resounding success, something that the Cayman Islands will be proud of and at the same time speak volumes for the tourism product,” said Cindy Rosan-Jones, managing partner of Guavaberry Marketing.

The event kicks off on 20 October with the Culture and Style Welcome Pool Party at Camana Bay at 8pm.

The following day the party moves to Ristorante Pappagallo in West Bay, with the Sunset White Fashion Fete from 7pm. It is set to be a visually striking evening with all those attending dressing in white and live entertainment from local DJs.

The fashion forward event culminates on Saturday evening, when the Solstice Fashion Gala takes place at Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Centre. The fashion show is produced by top New York fashion events producer Terry Donovan, president of Signature by Terry Donovan Events and will be hosted by Yendi Phillips, former Miss Jamaica Universe and first runner-up for Miss Universe 2010, alongside co-host Joel Steingold, of Style Network’s hit reality show, Clean House.

International designers such as Kevan Hall, Korto Momolu and Cesar Galindo will be headlining the show, and talented local designers Kidan Brooks, Gabz & Gabz swimwear, Sand Angels and Jawara Alleyne will also be featured in the event.

Showing off the designers’ latest creations will be a cast of international supermodels, as well as local models who received catwalk training with the legendary Alva Page earlier this year.

Following the fashion show, the party moves on to Elements Lounge at the Strand for a VIP after party.

The party continues throughout the following day with a day on the beach at Rum Point and the final send- off Bon Voyage Party at the popular Sunday hang out, Royal Palms.

Tickets are available from: NKY, Camana Bay; Sand Angels, Camana Bay; Arabus Boutique, George Town; Tortuga Stores: The Greenery, The Marquee, Governor’s Square.
