GT waterfront re-opens

WB road still closed

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has advised that a section of West Bay Road is closed due to high waves from Hurricane Rina.

Due to sea water and debris covering the road in the vicinity of the Public Beach, the following traffic diversions are now in place:

Traffic travelling out of West Bay is being diverted onto the Esterly Tibbetts Highway at the junction of Tiki Beach Bar, and traffic going into West Bay is being diverted onto the Esterly Tibbetts Highway at the junction with Governors Square.

In addition to the diversion on West Bay Road, police noted that excessive ocean waves and debris are coming over the seawall onto North Church
Street in George Town.

Police put a road closure in place on North Church
Street from Bodden’s Road to the junction with Eastern Avenue earlier in the day, but have since re-opened the area to traffic.
