For the hundreds who attended the Christmas Opening at Vigoro Nursery on Walkers Road on Thursday, November 3, it felt like the Christmas season had officially begun.
The long-running annual event, in which the store is emptied of the regular stock and filled with their Christmas inventory, is an opportunity to introduce Vigoro’s new styles, themes and lines of Christmas decorations each year.
However, the occasion was more than late night shopping, as Vigoro opened up the nursery, laying on a free bar and buffet prepared by Calypso Grill.
“It is our way of thanking all our loyal customers and I think people really appreciate that,” said owner Nancy Rohleder.
The event always draws a big crowd, Ms. Rohleder said, and this year was no exception.
“Some people have said I should make it an invitation-only event, as it gets so busy, but I feel very strongly that an open house should be open to everyone,” she said.
Crowds filled the shop, with many admiring the variety of decorated Christmas trees and making some early holiday purchases.
“I never buy in bulk, I had picked every single decoration that we carry in here, and I never sell left over stock from the previous year as this year’s,” Ms. Rohleder said.
On Sunday, November 20, Vigoro will be hosting a second Christmas opening, this time at the Agricola Drive nursery. Christmas in the Country will be completely different, Ms Rohleder said. It will be an afternoon event, running from 1pm to 4pm. Champagne and desserts will be served. There will also be live music and different decorations on display.
