Hundreds enjoy LBD

The Little Black Dress Party hosted by the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman on Friday, 4 November, gave hundreds of women just the excuse they needed to dress up in their favourite, or most original, little black dress and spend an evening in the elegant surroundings of the Silver Palm Lounge.

The event, which was part of the Friday Evening Series of parties held at the Silver Palm Lounge, Ritz-Carlton, was a resounding success, attracting an estimated 600 or more guests, filling the Silver Palm Lounge, the adjacent Taikun restaurant, which was transformed into a dance floor, and the terrace.

The turnout was significantly more than last year’s 350, said Nancy Harrison, Marketing coordinator at the Ritz-Carlton.

“The overwhelming success of Little Black Dress [party] indicates that the people of Cayman respond to creatively conceived events hosted in a luxury setting such as The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman,” added Nicole Owens, Silver Palm Lounge food and beverage manager.

“The feedback is astounding. Those who attended the event are still talking about it; there is still a buzz,” said Ms Harrison several days after the event. Such was the success of the evening there was some consideration given to hosting the parties on a monthly basis. However, the Ritz-Carlton has ultimately chosen to keep these events seasonal and therefore provide their guests with a more exclusive occasion to look forward to, she added.

Although not obligatory, the vast majority of ladies wore little black dresses, in a spectacular variety of styles, fabrics and designs.

Toward the end of the evening four judges selected a short list of potential winners for each of the four categories: Most Original Black Dress, Most Fashion Forward Black Dress, Most Coco Chanel Black Dress and Best Overall Little Black Dress. Each judge was allowed to select two candidates for each category. The ladies were then asked to step onto the stage to show off their dresses and the winner for each category was announced.

“There were some fantastic dresses out there and it was a lot of fun being on the panel,” said Anne Mason, one of the judges. “There were some really original, unique dresses and some stunning classics as well. It was a packed house and everyone seemed to be having a great time.”

The winners, whose names we’re still awaiting, walked away with prizes such as a champagne brunch for two, dinner for two at Taikun, Stoli Elit gift package and La Prairie luxury beauty products.
