Jamaica cruise through

The Challenge Trophy, Cayman Islands favourite off season tournament began in glorious sunshine.

It was a fitting start to T/20 action. Cayman Islands and Bahamas participants of the ICC Americas Level 1 Coaching Course held at the John Gray High School and the region’s Development Officer Wendell Coppin were present at the Smith Road Oval to enjoy the first match of the tournament on Sunday.

Batting first Cayman made a respectable 130 for 4 wickets with Ronald Ebanks 50 not out, Omar Willis 36 and Ricardo Roach 21 not out. Wayne Cato was the most outstanding bowler for Jamaica taking 2 wickets for 18 runs.

Cayman bowlers began well and restricted Jamaica in the first 10 overs. The stage was set for Ladel Farquharson, one of the most explosive batsman in the Cayman Islands.

With the Jamaican supporters chanting his name, he went in and did not disappoint. Farquharson stroked 4 sixes and 2 fours in making 51 not out and with Ainsley Hall 36 not out took Jamaica to victory by 7 wickets, reaching 135 for 3.
