Wreck Bar gets great

The iconic Wreck Bar at Rum Point has undergone a significant renovation for the upcoming season.

“We are rearranging the inside layout of the bar itself, but not the building or anything else inside the building,” said restaurant manager, John Buckley.

“We’ve ripped out all the cabinets and the top of the bar. We’ll be adding two complete bar stations, giving us three, rather than the single station that has always made all the drinks.”

For as many years as it has been there, he explained, there was always one person making all the drinks for all the guests. This will change with the new layout. “I’ll have two bartenders taking care of guests in the Wreck Bar, with a third in a complete service station taking care of guests who are sitting at the tables.

“In short, it should increase productivity, decrease the length of time it takes to get a drink, and make everyone’s quality of life better than before.”

The picnic tables have all been repainted and there will be some new staff joining for the new season, he explained.

“I think it’s always important to stay on top of your game. If you have a good product, you need not change it, but keeping it fresh and sharp is always important. This can be done with menu revisions, product changes, layout, paint, uniforms, lots of things can sharpen the image.”

The Rum Point Restaurant reopened in early November after some time to spruce up the venue during the slower season. The menu remains largely Caribbean Fusion with a few new additions.

“We will begin service and product training with all staff soon. Hopefully, we can raise the bar on service, increase customer appreciation. It’ll be fun, and I’m anxious to get back into making Rum Point a great place to have a great meal.” The free catamaran sail remains an important part of what the restaurant can offer, he added, particularly given the amount of good restaurants on-island competing for business through deals and discounts.
