Cayman police issue email scam warning

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is warning the public not to fall for an email scam.

They are urging people to immediately report any suspicious activity on their email accounts after a man reported his email had been hacked and people had been receiving emails, purporting to be from him, asking for cash.

It also appears that people who had hacked into his email also tried to get into his bank account, but were unsuccessful, police said.

The police are advising email account owners who spot any suspicious activity to change their password immediately and to contact their bank to ensure their accounts have not been compromised.

Anyone who wants to talk to the RCIPS about how to avoid becoming the victim of online scams should call their nearest police station, or the Financial Crime Unit at 949-8797.
