Duppies delight Playhouse premiere

The locally penned and filmed comedy horror Duppies premiered at the Prospect Playhouse on Tuesday, 15 November. Attending the premier were the film’s producers, actors and supporters, all of whom cheered at the start of the screening.

Written and directed by screenwriter and author Philip Eckstein, the film tells the tale of a haunted house and the nightmares that ensue when Taylor and Madison Carson, a young unsuspecting couple, moves in. It’s not long before a number of strange and unexplained events start to take place, which leaves the couple questioning whether they are safe to stay in the house. Filmed in North Side in March earlier this year, the film features an all local cast new to a role in front of the camera, with Shannon Powell and Hal Ebanks the stars of the film.

Prior to the start of the screening, Mr. Eckstein took to the stage to thank all those that had been involved in the making of Duppies and to encourage anyone interested in a career in film making to come and talk to him.

Mr. Eckstein is the author of three published novels as well as the screenwriter for the independent movie Zombie Driftwood, also filmed in Cayman. Like Zombie Driftwood, Duppies is an independent film funded through private investors.

The film will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray and is suitable for those ages 8 and older.

  1. Was loads of fun. There were some editing issues, but with the budget that Mr. Eckstein worked with, outstanding. Kudos to Ms. Powell on her inaugrual acting debut. Indie movie making is alive and well in Cayman.
