George Town residents have the opportunity to make nomination for members of the George Town Advisory District Council beginning 22 November at a public meeting at the George Town town hall.
The nomination meeting follows a meeting on 8 November when residents were informed about councils.
“I encourage residents of George Town to actively participate in the nomination process,” Community Affairs Minister Mike Adam said. “It is from these nominations that Cabinet will select the members of the Advisory District Council. To those who are approached to be nominated, I say this is a great opportunity to serve and influence the betterment of our community and the country.”
Nominations can be made for general membership or for a particular office such as chairman, vice chairman, treasurer or secretary. Each district council is allowed a total of 10 members.
Nominations must be submitted in writing and signed. The nomination must also be countersigned by the nominee to indicate the person is willing to serve.
Both the person making the nomination and the nominee must be residents of George Town. The nomination must be accompanied by a brief biography or resume indicating the suitability of the person to serve on the council.
Cayman’s District Councils Law calls for councils to advise their MLA or MLAs on matters affecting their district, recognising this may also include matters of national scope.
Nominations may also be handed to any George Town MLA. Minister Adam cautioned however that although residents have the right to hand their nomination to any of the four George Town MLAs, people should hold in mind the PPM have publicly stated they are boycotting the nomination process.
Nominations can be mailed to: ADC Nominations c/o The Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender & Housing Government Administration Building, P.O. Box 109Grand Cayman KY1-9000
