Cuban magic in Cayman

Two performers from Cuba who were supposed to exhibit their acts during Pirate’s Week festivities but did not make it in time due to clerical hold ups in Cuba, spent the remainder of their time in Grand Cayman performing at primary schools.

“These two very talented young people came a bit too late to be able to take part in the landing. In fact, the young man was supposed to have walked across Hog Sty Bay on a tight rope,” said Pirates Week Festival Director Bernie Bush.

“Some of the sponsors, along with the Pirates Week Committee, thought this would be a good idea and the decision was made to have the entertainers perform their show, which includes acrobatics and magic at East End Primary, George Town Primary and West Bay Primary,” he said.

Mr. Bush said these schools were chosen as a result of their participation in Pirate’s Week.

“It was a amazing for the kids and we are hoping to bring back the head of the school in Cuba where these types of skills are taught for a two- to three-week workshop to teach our children here how to do magic,” he said. “It is important to offer them these kinds of experiences and get them interested in areas that have not always been accessible to them.”
