Teen tourist survives Jet-Ski crash

A 16-year-old girl who was airlifted from Grand Cayman to Miami following a collision between the banana boat attraction on Seven Mile Beach and a Jet-Ski last week will survive her injuries.

According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the girl has now been released from hospital and travelled back to her home in New York, USA.

The teen was in a critical condition following the Thursday collision.

Just after noon that day, police received a report that a Jet-Ski had collided with the inflatable banana boat just off public beach.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said the Jet-Ski was being ridden by a 17-year-old male when it crashed into a yellow banana-shaped inflatable raft which was being towed by a power boat.

Two females, aged 16 and 24 years, were thrown from the inflatable and were subsequently transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment.

Police said the 24-year-old woman was released from hospital soon after the crash. All three people involved in the incident were cruise ship passengers.
