Noted resident golf pro Marcello Santi will be bringing down some of his famous peers.
Santi will organize the second annual Friends Invitational Pro-Am at the Blue Tip golf course at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. Dubbed this year as the Audemars Piguet Invitational, the event is slated to run 14-18 December.
Some 11 pros are slated to visit including 2010 Czech Open champion Peter Hanson, five-time European Tour champion Thomas Levet and 2010 Nordea Scandinavian Masters winner Richard Johnson.
As part of the competition, a clinic will be staged for both adults and kids by a David Leadbetter Golf Academy instructor. In addition a celebrity football match will be staged at Camana Bay and feature Italian great Gianfranco Zola.
The invitational got started last Christmas by Santi, who used to star on the European Tour. It attracted eight international players including 2008 Mercedes-Benz Championship winner Daniel Chopras, FedEx Cup contender Brian Davis and 2009 PGA Tour money list player Greg Owen. The tournament is being pushed heavily as part of Cayman’s tourism product by local government. Among the supporters are the Premier McKeeva Bush, the Minister of Youth and Sports Mark Scotland, Acting Director of Tourism Shomari Scott and Ministerial Council chairman Cline Glidden Jr.
A number of entities are sponsors including Audemars Piguet, Cayman Airways and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.
