Camana Bay getting into spirit

Camana Bay is getting busy with Christmas celebrations and this week is no exception.

From 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, 10 December, Camana Bay is going to be fizzing with the brightest sounds Grand Cayman has to offer.

The Paseo hosts a free festive concert featuring local bands Jams by I Am, After Skool and Hi Tide, as well as a special performance by The Lighthouse School.

Crafts and games

Children can enjoy fun crafts and games and there will be local art by Art Sisters, a Cayman National Gallery outreach programme for women, on display.

The 10th of December is International Human Rights Day, so this month’s showcase will benefit The Human Rights Commission of Cayman, whose mission is to promote the understanding and observance of human rights in the Cayman Islands, with a focus on youth and family.

Santa will also be at Camana Bay from 3pm to 5pm for photos on the Crescent and if you’re still around at 6pm, local forecasters are predicting two hours of snow fall.

Santa will also be at Camana Bay on Tuesday, 13 December, this week from 5pm with Snow Days the same day from 6pm.

Paws for thought

From 11am to 3pm on Sunday, 11 December, the Cayman Animal Rescue Enthusiasts partner with Ortanique for the Paws for Brunch. Dog owners can enjoy a delicious meal with their beloved pooches on the restaurant’s paw-friendly waterside veranda. In addition to the regular brunch menu, a three-course Doggie Brunch menu featuring homemade dishes that are both canine- and human-approved is also available. All proceeds from the Doggie Brunch menu benefit CARE for the aid of abused animals.

Later that evening Ortanique hosts another Caja China pig roast – it must be a full moon – on the Island in the Camana Bay Harbour, from 6pm onward.

Pan on the Paseo takes place on Wednesday, 14 December, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and the same evening, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, the Caribbean Reading Club convenes at Books & Books to review The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht. Membership is free and new members are always welcome. The club takes place on the second Wednesday of each month.

Drop and shop

On Saturday, 10 December, and Thursday, 15 December, take advantage of a rare opportunity to prepare for the holidays while your children are engaged in exciting and fun-filled Christmas crafts. Drop your children off at the Heliconia room on Market Street for up to two hours of supervised crafts while you do your Christmas shopping. This service is presented by Articulate and Camana Bay for children ages 5 to 10. Space is limited and there is no pre-registration, so please arrive on time to avoid disappointment. A suggested donation of $10 will benefit the Camana Bay Christmas Give. There is also a Drop & Shop on Saturday, 17 December.
