The New York Jets may have a winning record but they’re not quite a playoff team.
To secure a berth they will need to play better. Their first shot at turning things around comes on Christmas Eve this Saturday, 24 December. The 8-6 Jets battle the 7-7 Giants at 1pm in a New York showdown with major playoff implications.
Sanchez has not been consistent this year and he looked bad in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday. The quarterback has to hit receivers like Plaxico Burress to wrap up an American Football Conference wildcard spot.
Whether he acknowledges it or not, his counter-part Eli Manning is under similar pressure. Eli’s numbers are good but last Sunday’s loss to a Washington Redskins team long out of the playoff picture is inexcusable.
Both teams may pride themselves on defence but it seems like quarterback production will be the difference. Aside from the Jets-Giants contest, a number of games can impact the postseason picture this Saturday.
The 8-6 Cincinnati Bengals square off with the 7-7 Arizona Cardinals at 1pm. The 7-7 San Diego Chargers are looking for a division title but will have their hands full with the 9-5 Detroit Lions at 4.05pm. The game of the week is the 6-8 Eagles facing the 8-6 Dallas Cowboys at 4.15pm as Philly’s season hangs in the balance.
