Premier League football resumes after the festive break on Sunday and every match is crucial in terms of relegation and winning the league.
Top club Elite face Future at the Bodden Town playing field at 5pm. Elite are only one point ahead of unbeaten Scholars International and cannot afford to slip up against Future who are bottom but are never easy to beat.
Elite’s technical director Greg Ebanks acknowledges that fact. “Future won their last game, against Cayman Athletic and are highly motivated,” he said. “The scores in most of their losses are always relatively close. They’re not doing well with points but their scores are not wide margins so we’ll be keeping our eyes on them on Sunday. It will be about who wants it the most.”
Dwayne ‘Gaza’ Wright was sensational for Elite at the start of the season, scoring three hat-tricks in the first few weeks. But Wright has been hampered by injuries recently and not been so prolific. Coach Greggy is thankful that the scoring has been distributed throughout the team by players like Alex Belcher and Jairo Sanchez.
“One good thing about us is that we don’t rely on any specific players to score. I’m still mindful of Scholars who haven’t lost all season and are probably looking to stay that way.”
Scholars International play Bodden Town in the 7pm match so Elite will be watching that game with interest. Ebanks thinks BT being at home will give them the edge. “It all boils down to how teams have recovered after the Christmas break.”
The two matches at the TE McField Annex sees Roma United against Tigers in the 5pm match and George Town against Cayman Athletic in the 7pm game.
