Cayman Islands track and field athletes Carlos and Carl Morgan have received the support of Kirk Freeport Ltd as they set their sights on the 2012 Olympic Games as sprinters and long jumpers.
Gerry Kirkconnell, Director for Kirk Freeport willingly gave a generous donation of $2,000 to assist the Morgan brothers with their training. He has shared an interest in the success of the twins since they were youngsters and even coached them in Little League baseball.
“They have both done our country proud and we have faith in them to continue to represent these islands on the world stage,” said Kirkconnell.
“I plan to represent the Cayman Islands in the upcoming 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships and 2012 London Olympics Games,” said Carl. “I hope to represent my country well and add to the legacy left by athletes such as Kareem Streete-Thompson.”
Carlos, who recently completed his masters at Tennessee State University – now married and a father, is looking forward to representing the Cayman Islands in London in July if he can reach the qualifying standard.
He said: “I am wholeheartedly committed to developing my craft to realise my childhood dream of representing the Cayman Islands at the highest level of track and field competitions. As such, I will use my God-given athletic ability to bring pride to the Cayman Islands by one day standing on the podium at the World Championships and Olympic Games.”
