Kids Day, scrapbooking

Heritage House in Cayman Brac is the centre for a Kids Day on Saturday, 21 January, with a great theme yet to be announced so head down from 10am and join in the fun!

“One Saturday a month we dedicate a day to educating kids typically ages 5 to 10 on our history through story telling, videos, crafts and games,” explains our good mate Saskia Edwards.

“This free event is designed to be both fun and educational as we feature a different topic each month. Previous themes have included learning about Caymanite, National Heroes, National Symbols, Discovery of the Cayman Islands and life in the good old days.”

Parents are welcome to join in and register on [email protected].

On Wednesday, 25th, the craft session takes place from 3.30pm to 5pm and will be a scrapbooking session, Saskia tells us.

“For the scrapbooking session we will be learning about the unique story behind Rebecca’s Cave and how it developed its name. Although these mysterious passages are beautiful, intriguing and exciting adventures to explore, they have also served the dual purpose of protecting the Island’s residents from hurricanes over the years.

“One in particular, now called Rebecca’s Cave, came to the rescue of a family during a tragic event in 1932. Those in attendance for the sessions will get to create their own scrapbook page documenting the historical significance behind Rebecca’s Cave. Scrapbooking is a fun and creative way of preserving memories and this activity will serve as a beautiful way of remembering baby Rebecca.
