Native Florence goes digital with her book One and One is Two

Author Florence Goring-Nozza’s latest novel, One and One is Two, recalled Cayman’s culture and rich heritage on its release in 2011. The popular writer’s since made the book available digitally on Kindle after a clutch of requests. Weekender caught up with the busy author for a Q&A session…

How has the new book been received so far?

My book has been well received on Amazon and Unibook and I have had numerous offers from well known publishers. I have had no problems getting published; publishers have been chasing me to publish my books instead of me, the author, chasing them. It’s been quite flattering for me.

Some of the readers or reviewers who have purchased my Cayman Homecoming Book One And One Is Two, declare that it’s “Not your average boring novel.” They find the book to be captivating as a matter of fact. It is historical but it is really a Caribbean thriller as the subtitle describes.

How did the Kindle version come about?

Well, at first my book was available in paperback and hardcover in print form only, but while doing promotions and advertising, some of my friends, family and relatives asked if the book would be available on Kindle as well.

So I caught onto the message really quickly and it so happens that Amazon offers a most sophisticated electronic version to sell authors‘ books to consumers worldwide available in the Kindle version. I gave them a thumbs up for that.

What did you learn about Cayman from the writing process?

Uh! Being a daughter of the soil, having been born and raised in the Cayman Islands, I guess it’s appropriate to say that I learned all over again most of what myself and others had forgotten (LOL): That we sometimes take too much for granted and while penning this manuscript for One And one Is Two, I realised that the Cayman of yesterday is not the Cayman of today, where natives slept all night with their windows and doors open.

That we should protect the good things that we have and promote, preserve, appreciate and be proud of our Caymanian heritage and the people that are responsible for making that happen, which were our seamen that went away to sea and came back and built homes for their families and businesses that kept Caymanians employed. Those were good memories.

What’s next for you?

I would like to continue writing more books that will inspire, enlighten and empower individuals that will help bring them into their destiny. Books that will stir up the gifts in them that have been dormant for years and see if my ideas for writing more books is worth pursuing as a mover and a shaker.
