North Siders will be facing some competition from the George Town area this year, when it comes to who hosts the biggest Mardi Gras festival on Grand Cayman.
Margaritaville on the waterfront in George Town will be throwing a two-day extravaganza, starting on Fat Tuesday (the real Mardi Gras) on 21 February, breaking for sleep and recovery, and resuming on Wednesday, 22 February at 2pm.
Entrance both days is free.
So, if you find yourself with nothing to do during the next public holiday, you know where the action will be.
Tuesday
Things start to warm up on Tuesday after work at the Fat Tuesday Masquerade Party. There is no cover charge and masks will be given out upon arrival. Revellers will be entertained by DJs Lin and Vybez from 8pm onward. In addition to Happy Hour drink specials, there will be beads, beads and more beads. Collect them today, save them for tomorrow – there’s a chance to win.
Wednesday
With six cruise ships scheduled to be in George Town that day (Ash Wednesday) there will be approximately 16,000 cruise ship visitors to swell the local resident crowd, making for potentially one of the biggest Mardi Gras parties Grand Cayman has ever seen.
Margaritaville has teamed up with the Pirates Week Department to host George Town’s first Mardi Gras Festival, which will involve blocking off the street in front of Margaritaville so an outdoor stage can be set up.
The party kicks off at 2pm and goes on until late, with music from Selecta Renegade and DJs Lin, Xs, Alex, Tony Chen and Vybez in addition to live performances from local bands Clever Knots, Sucker Box and The IZ.

Caymanian food will be served and residents may enjoy special rates on drinks.
Whoever collects the most beads stands to win $500 plus a BlackBerry phone.
So get on down to the waterfront this Ash Wednesday for one of the biggest parties of the year.
