Sunday Roast at The Ritz: A spiffing slice of Britain

Can bubble and squeak be far behind?

Move over fish and chips, bangers and mash and shepherd’s pie; the royalty of British weekend meals has arrived in Cayman.

Sunday Roast, the traditional British Sunday meal, was launched on 12 February as a weekly offering at 7 Prime Cuts & Sunsets at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

The meal, which is available beginning at 6pm, includes many of the traditional dishes of a British Sunday Roast. There’s Prime Rib, Yorkshire Pudding, roasted Yukon Gold potatoes, bacon-braised cabbage and creamy horseradish sauce. There’s also great starters like Scottish smoked salmon loin and avocado prawn cocktail and truly scrumptious desserts like English trifle and chocolate bread and butter pudding with brandy sauce.

Erika Chadwick, senior food and beverage manager at 7 Prime Cuts & Sunsets, said the restaurant was delighted to be one of the few places in Cayman where guests may indulge in the British tradition of Sunday Roast.

“Sunday dinner is not only about what you eat, but what it represents – a time for friends and family to get together,” she said. “Nothing beats a Yorkshire pudding, roast beef and roasties on a Sunday – good home cooking, away from home.”

Having Sunday Roast prepared with the typical Ritz-Carlton panache takes the tradition one step higher.

The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Executive Chef Frederic Morineau said the 7 Prime Cuts & Sunsets’ Sunday Roast exemplifies the important family tradition.

“Guests sit down to an authentic English dinner menu served family-style,” he said. “Items are placed in the centre of the table and are then passed among guests as you would when you sit down to a home-cooked meal.”

The key to any Sunday Roast is the meat and 7 Prime Cuts & Sunsets is known for great beef.

“The highlight of course is the Certified Angus Beef prime rib, which is a delectable cut of meat, chosen for its quality and tenderness,” Chef Frederic said.

The meal is priced at CI$70 per person for adults and CI$35 for children 12 and under. Since the meal is served family style, there is a minimum of two guests for Sunday Roast.
