Recently there has been an orchestrated effort on the part of homosexual activists to legalise homosexuality and homosexual marriage throughout the Caribbean.
Most of these people are not from the Caribbean but are trying to impose their sordid lifestyle on the Christian Caribbean islands.
People should be made aware of the fact that there is no “gay gene” and no scientific proof that homosexuality is innate. Homosexuality is, in fact, an abnormal behaviour. Ironically, the homosexual lobby often tries to project their own disorder on heterosexuals by prejudicially labelling them “homophobes”.
Homosexuality, like contraception, is contrary to natural law because it thwarts the natural generation of life.
Marriage is an institution that predates civilisation, ordained by God, and exclusive to one man and one woman who are given the responsibility to procreate the human race and to nurture, educate, and pass on shared values and mores to their offspring. To redefine marriage to include same-sex couples is to strip marriage of an essential component, namely the ability and obligation to procreate. This would render marriage meaningless and open it up to endless revision and redefinition.
Gay marriage is a threat to religious freedom and conscience rights. There are already incidents in Canada and the US of religious adoption and foster care agencies being pushed out of work, and small business owners being fined or sued for not accommodating same-sex couples. Town clerks and other officials with objections to participating in same-sex union ceremonies or to the granting of same-sex marriage licenses have been told to find other jobs.
Once a state recognises same-sex partnerships as marriages or the equivalent, then naturally the argument is made that in family life classes in schools this has to be taught to be a valid partnership. Religious parents who do not want their children to be indoctrinated in beliefs contrary to theirs will be out of luck. They will be branded and labelled as bigots. This is already happening in Canada.
Christians and other people from traditional faith communities are being called in a new way to have courage. The problem today is not homophobia but theophobia – a hatred by some of God, faith, religion and the Church. The public affirmation of this prejudice is the hallmark of ideological totalitarianism.

Why is it so often Christians who speak the language of hate?
To: JTB,
Christians do not speak the language of hate at all.
They speak the language of truth. the facts.
I agree with you Mr. Kokoski…let’s not stop there..let’s criminalize persons having Polish sounding last names… I mean, after all, everybody knows from Polish jokes how stupid those people are, right? Why should we let THEM breed and raise more stupid Polocks??
my parents raise us 4 kids as Catholics… my eldest sister announced she was gay and wanted to live with her girlfriend. Do we give up the church or my sister? well the Church lost that one.
Nothing is EVER set in stone… God tried to test our faith with my sister? Seemed an evil game to play.
Very disappointed with the Compass for printing such a hate filled screed. I am fully aware that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to print a letter filled with hate and innacuracies is irresponsible journalism.
Why is the Compass publishing a letter from a man who seems to spend his time sending these hate letters to newspapers all over the place. Do a google search, the man is a nazi sympathizer for goodness sake.
The writer’s extreme viewpoint helps explain some of the abominations commited by christian religions over the years. Thankfully many mainstream faiths are starting to wake up and apologize for their past errors.
For example the Catholic Church in Australia just this past July issued a formal statement of apology for performing over 150,000 forced adoptions. They got so into the idea of a traditional family (married man and woman) that they routinely stole the babies of single mothers and other ‘undesirables’ such as lesbians. This sounds insane but look it up. They took the babies while the mothers were under anaesthesia and in many cases told them the babies were stillborn. These babies were then placed in foster homes or with other married families.
Here is another point to consider. If major christian religions got over their opposition to gay marriage perhaps catholic priests would have molested far fewer young boys over the years. By the catholic churches own admission (2004 John Jay Report) up to 5% of catholic priests were involved in sexual abuse allegations. The church went on to say that this was comparable with other major christian religions as if to make it alright.
How would it be worse for society if 1 in 20 priests had a committed gay relationship? Personally I find that preferable to the tens of thousands of lives they have ruined by molesting children.
Why cant we stay out of each others business and not keep trying to oopose out views and lifestyles on others.
I’m using this story/letter, to make a general comment that can be applied to the sentiments expressed in this letter but also to other conditions that exist in Cayman.
What I find totally amazing is the lack of ability to negotiate or compromise, that is deeply rooted in Caymanian culture.
As the world changes, peoples modes and understanding of things must change, if there is not to be chaos in the world.
This letter could not have been published at a worst time and questions must be asked of the editors of Caycompass why they choose to publish these views of a non-resideent Canadian who has a history rooted in right-wing Christian conservatism, which can be linked to right-wing politics and neo-nazi racism.
I might agree with some of the views in the letter personally but these issues are for a person’s conscience to dictate what position they hold on this, or any issue.
Some of the views expressed in this letter are also extremely controversial fundamentalist Christian views that clashes with the secular world in which we live; religion is a matter of choice and should not be enforced on anyone.
Why this letter does the situation in Cayman a diservice is that an impending Bill of Rights, coming in November, will open this can of worms for Cayman without any outsider needing to fan the flames of what could turn out to be some strong cultural and possibly, legal challenges for Cayman.
That compromises will have to made goes without saying.
Editor’s note: The writer of this letter is free to express his viewpoint, as firery and others are free to express theirs…including that they believe the newspaper shouldn’t have published these comments.
The newspaper and http://www.caycompass.com always try to encourage as much debate as possible. If we err, we err on the side of more expression, rather than less. If the readers blame us for providing a forum for others to express their thoughts, so be it.
Dear Editors…
Point taken;as you would know by now, I am one of your greatest supporters, although no two viewpoints are going to agree 100% of the time: rest assured, I am 100% in favour of your policies of free expresion.
Having said that, lets take a closer look at this letter and its contents, and also the writer, in the context of some of the other comments that have been made.
Political fundamental Christianity has been as dangerous, violent and dogmatic as fundamental Islam…and has held that position for far longer;one only needs to refer back to the ‘Dark Ages’ and the Inquisition, when European Catholicism ruled and dominated the then-known world, and supported the occupation, rape and plunder of the indiginous peoples of the non-European world, supposedly ‘discovered’ by their imperialist colonisers like Christopher Colombus and others.
The Catholic Church was the main sponsors and financial partners in these economic ventures of plunder for profit and the policies have only been further ingrained since then.
Now we have political Christianity competing in the secular world for the minds and wallets of people through media; every political cause has a price tag attached to it and the profits are huge.
On examining this letter, the main gist of the letter is the’anti-abortion’ lobby, not particularly an anti-gay lobby, as it is presented as; honestly, I support neither abortion or homosexuality as lifestyle choices but I dare not question another person’s right to make those choices for themselves.
Before the fundamentalist Catholic apologists like this writer seeks to address abortion and gay issues, they need to clean up their own backyard and address the ingrained homosexuality within their priesthood, with the historical molestation and abuse of young children as its legacy.
Certainly, no sin can be greater than this one.
If Jesus was alive today do you think he would be so unchristian as to feel such hatred for the gay community? I think not. I think that Jesus loved everybody equally and without prejudice. Everyone is different and you need to except people for who they are not condemn them because they are gay.
I agree with you mr. Kokoski, by definition marriage is state of being husband and wife. Same sex marriage is totally joke and farce. It is society’s misconception to think same sex marriage exists but the truth is only same sex union/partnership exist, just a mindset matter. To me if there is same sex partnership, the right thing to do is to register it to SEC or its equivalent but no way to marriage registry. I think Catholic Church would not oppose if it’s only same sex partnership, what is unacceptable is the same sex lovemaking which is a blatant violation of bible rules.
TAKE A LOOK AT THE LINK BELOW TO SEE HOW THIS MAN SPREADS HATRED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. Has he nothing better to do with his time than write hate letters to every country in the world?
Sounds like someone needs something more productive to do with his time, like get a life!

In response to the editors comment that they may err in more expression rather than less, that’s nothing but a cop out for lack of fact checking. The above letter was written by a person with no connection to our islands and all the Compass did was provide validation for his hateful views. What exactly did that accomplish?
If the Compass wants to provoke meaningful discussion I would suggest publishing articles that are truthful and relevent to your readers.
The difference between political and spiritual religion…all religions, including Christianity.
Political: anyone can claim adherence to a religion and its tenets; no proof is necessary.
Members know all the rules and seek to use those rules against other people, not necessarily live by them themselves.
Create controversial issues in the name of religion for profit.
Are aggressive when challenged on the tenents of their professed beliefs.
Are completely intolerent to the beliefs or others and their right to practice them.
Spiritual: members of a religion prove their allegiance by their lifestyle and actions, not their words alone.
Seek to know and follow the true spiritual path within their religion; religion and spirituality are two completely different things altogether.
Are tolerant to others because of a higher spiritual enlightment.
Seek to avoid confrontation on the point of religious differences.
Do not have the time to stir and seek controversies with others because they have too much work to do on themselves.
The question now should be answered…
What type of Christian wrote this letter ?
What Would Jesus Do? Isn’t this a question that many modern Christians put forward these last few years? From the bible studies I had in school in Cayman I learned that Jesus loved everyone; lepers, prostitutes, criminals, et al. Why would the Son of God take in the lowest of the low but not love a man or woman who is gay? I can hear the fundamentalists now say it is because it is not natural to be gay – it is against God. Well isn’t being a hooker unnatural and against God? Jesus took in and protected the ladies of the night. Being a murderer of men is probably the most unnatural and against God anything that I can think of and according to Christians Jesus will forgive a man on death row if he just repents his sin. But two men getting married is somehow the most abhorrent thing that most Christians can think of. Wow. I’m not a religious man but the Jesus that I learned of in school would not only love and protect gay men and women he would forgive all you bigots as well. One love.
Well the thumbs up/down would suggest that Caymanians – or at least the Compass’ readers – are a bunch of reactionary bigots.
I am not a Christian, and I find laughable the idea that we should order our lives according to the diktats of two-thousand-year dead goat-herders, but I am happy to accept that each man’s conscience is his own. I’m fairly sure Jesus’ message is supposed to be one of tolerance too.
For all the churches and pieties Cayman seems to me to be rather lacking in Christian charity and goodwill
The writer of this letter is a confirmed agitator on controversial and political issues within the Catholic Church…and is despised by many mainstream Catholics.
Its good to know the source of some views, as it validates whether those views are genuinely held beliefs from sincerety, or are being used for ulterior motives; much of the opinion on this letter writer infers the latter.
If this letter writer does read the Caycompass forum, I have a response and questions for him, that I would challenge him to answer; my questions surrounds the policy of the Catholic Church demanding celabacy for their clergy.
If the Bible is to be used as a book of judgement and certain sins cherry-picked for condemnation, then all the Bible’s rules should be applied.
There is absolutely NOWHERE in the Bible that I have read through, that calls for celibacy for the priesthood; as a matter of fact, quite the opposite.
The culture of the Old Testament, which constitutes Hebrew/Jewish religious and political history was one of polygamy; Jacob, the patriarch of the nation of Israel fathered 13 children by 4 different women: this is only one notable example of what was the norm.
Jewish rabbis, from historical to modern times, are expected to be married and have families.
The original Christian church, the Orthodox Church, has absolutely no rule for celibacy and Orthodox priests have large families usually.
Protestant churches neither have any rule for celibacy for their clergy; marriage and families are the norm.
All these Christian denominations claim to study and follow the same Bible so the rules should be the same for all; again I ask, where does the Roman Catholic Church get its rule for celibacy for its priesthood from ?
As far as I am concerned, this is as unatural as state as any other is claimed to be because it seeks to suppress a natural human gift with which all humans are born, their sexuality.
In seeking to suppress this human element, the Roman Catholic Church has placed their priesthood into grave jeopardy and might not the historical issues of pedophilia within the Catholic Church be a result of this ?
Or, has the Roman Catholic adopted the practice of the priesthood of the old pagan religions which kept young boys as catamites in their temples ?
Maybe this letter writer can seek to provide some answers for this question, as he seems to think himself the expert on so many issues within his religion; I would certainly like some answers.
