Little League action is in full swing with plenty of early intrigue in the AA division.
Pizza Hut rebounded from a season-opening loss to tie a tough Crighton side 8-8 and beat Maples 4-2. CIBC continue to be frontrunners with a 5-3 win over Maples and a 9-9 draw with Crighton.
Miguel Rodriguez has been stepping up for Pizza Hut, with two homeruns. The pitcher has also been good on the mound, with Mario Ebanks and Justin Derrick also excelling on both sides. Mikhail Taylor has proven to be a tough-nosed catcher while Jelani “JJ” Campbell, Augusto Hudgson, Gianno Williams, Adam McWatt and Korey McLean have been key contributors.
Keeping CIBC out front has been star pitcher Javier Johnson, who went nearly six innings and struck out 12 batters on 86 pitches in one game. Rookie outfielder D’Andre Rowe has produced clutch at-bats. Jonah Pierre, Julian Menko, Everton Allen, Mark Chow, Chad Brooks and Jevon Forbes have all delivered at the plate so far.
Crighton are proving to be tough outs behind Alaye McLaughlin, who is a strong Most Valuable Player candidate with his timely hitting. Crighton pitchers Daniel Manderson, Zion Coe and Omar Sanchez Diaz have also stepped up at the plate with Darian “War Tank” Lopez, Kaylone Warren, Matthew Westin, Roberth Davies, Davin Gallagher and Shannon Osgood contributing on offence.
Maples have been on the losing end of some tight games. But they are a competitive side behind talents like Gonzalo McLaughlin, Albertini Holness, Jesse Jackson and rookie outfielder Francisco Fuentes.
League matches continue at the George Town Field of Dreams on Tuesday, 13 March, at 6.30pm.
