A support group call Cayman Inspiration has been set up for carers of people with auto-immune disorders and diseases.
Cayman Inspiration recently held its first meeting at The Exchange, which was attended by caregivers of individuals who suffer from fibromyalgia, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis.
The group was established to provide support through resource information and shared experiences of group members.
Renee Howell, one of the members, said: “It’s our hope that we are able to provide that inspiration that carries the person through their difficult times. We all share similar experiences, even though our disorders may vary greatly.
“It’s so important to be able to identify with other people sharing the same experience. The group’s goal is to be a positive resource, for the person diagnosed, the caregiver and to other support groups as well. It’s a collective approach, due to the islands small size.”
Professional Pharmacy, part of Cayman Pharmacy Group, is the group’s main sponsor. Dave Pellow, owner of Professional Pharmacy, said: “The need for a group like this is huge, people resonate with people going through similar experiences. When we learned of the idea of [Cayman] Inspiration, it was an easy fit for us. We want to educate people on their disorders; we want to help them take care of their health.”
Cayman Inspiration is open to anyone in the Cayman Islands who has, cares for or lives with someone who has an auto-immune disorder.
