The Flames Strikers seem poised for a top four finish in Cayman netball.
Flames defeated Roma B 45-22 and Rising Stars B 47-13 last week in the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league. With those victories at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts, Flames are fourth at 5-3.
Strikers captain Pheona Plummer states the club is enjoying their success so far.
“We just play hard and we wanted to win,” Plummer said. “We’re looking forward to the other game (against 3-4 Unity A on 14 April). We have one more game to play and we’re happy for the success we’ve been having. I appreciate my team-mates and all of their efforts into making this a success.”
Flames are now ahead of 4-3 All Stars B, sponsored by Cayman National Bank. Saturday saw a full side as head coach Wayne Brown suited up Marsha Campbell at Goal Shooter, Goal Attack Latoya Nixon, Wing Attack Sheana McDonald, Centre Glenita Logan, Wing Defence Nicole Biggs, Plummer at Goal Defence and Goal Keeper Rochelle Webb.
The subs were Vanessa Holness, Denecia Cranston, Squiddy McGarvey and Shelly Fentine-Powell. All would help Flames enjoy 13-3, 13-3, 11-7 and 10-3 advantages in each of the game’s four quarters.
On the flip side, the loss is the fourth straight for 1-5 Rising Stars after they were hammered 37-15 by All-Stars B last Tuesday in a rescheduled contest. Taking the court for RS head coach Orvin Palacio on Saturday were GS Kimberly Solomon, GA Alexis Carias, WA Annique Blake, C Gelyssa Rankin, WD Kimberly David, GD Tennille Rankin, GK Kady Myers with Karla Rankine, Letanya Thompson, Josette Chambers and Selena Thomas as subs.
RS play again this Saturday, 31 March, against Roma B. On Thursday, 29 March, Roma B face Unity B at 6.30pm while Rising Stars A battle Ernst and Young Hot Shots.
