Community volleyball is coming to a close in West Bay.
The semi-finals for the 2012 West Bay Community Volleyball League are slated to take place next Saturday, 14, April from 6.30pm. As usual, the Sir John A Cumber Primary School hall will serve as venue.
The indoor matches, organized by the West Bay Community Sports Committee, have been going on since February. Competition was split up into a youth and adult division.
Six teams suited up for the adult segment in Above the Net, Jumpers, North West Point, Scholars and Wesleyan Christian Academy.
Last year, Above the Net (with basketball players like Nigel Ebanks) claimed their second straight adult title while Young Blazers (featuring budding sportsman Tevin Yen) were the youth division winners.
From there, two West Bay all-star squads earned a split with a pair of East End select teams that had talent like Anthony Bodden, John McLean Jr and Curtis Welcome (East End also organized a community volleyball competition).
Over the years, a number of notable community figures have taken part including Arden ‘Cheeky’ Rivers, Bernie Bush and Director of Sports Collin Anglin. The finals for the 2012 league are tentatively scheduled for 21 April.
