Anthony Jacques Scott, the founder of the Jacques Scott Group of Companies in the Cayman Islands, died Sunday, 8 April at his home in Coral Gables, Florida. He was 96.
Born 6 March, 1916, Mr. Scott, known locally as Tony Scott or “Scottie”, is survived by his wife, Pat. A memorial service will be held in Grand Cayman on a date to be announced.
Mr. Scott will best be remembered for founding Jacques Scott & Company Ltd., which consists of four main divisions – Jacques Scott Beverage Division, Jacques Scott Food and Tobacco Division, The Wine Cellar Ltd, and Island Supply Company Ltd., according to the company’s Web site.
Since its founding, the group has diversified and expanded from wines, spirits and beers to frozen and dry foods, juices, soft drinks, tobacco, fresh produce and restaurant equipment. The main business of the group is the wholesale and retail sale of products to hotels, restaurants, licensed premises, in-bond outlets, supermarkets and grocery stores throughout the Cayman Islands.
