Sunglasses made from Caymanite? A signature walk? Anything goes in the world of fashion, and with some internationally respected figures in the fashion world now collaborating with FRESH 2012, the bar is being raised.
Models and designers will have to opportunity to work with, and pick up valuable tips and advice from, the likes of designers Cool&&Breezy and sytlist and designer Dexter Pottinger.
FRESH 2012 is part of the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Cayfest – a series of events celebrating and showcasing local artistic and cultural talents and takes place on 28 April.
FRESH 2012 will involve more than 40 locally selected models, many of whom have aspirations of modelling full time, who will be strutting down the runway wearing creations by local designers including Jacqueline Bleicher, Virginia Foster, Sandra Lichenstein, Shirley DaCosta, Melissa Dilbert and Mara McBean.
Caymanian designers Jawara Alleyne and Kidan Brooks, who are alumni of FRESH and are now making their mark on the international fashion scene, are also taking part in the event while showcasing new collections.
Twins Corianna and Brianna Dobson, who go by the design name Cool&&Breezy and are best known for their signature sunglasses and accessories, have teamed up with local sculptor Horacio Esteban to design a one of a kind pair of sunglasses for FRESH 2012. “I’ve checked out Horacio’s work and it’s super crazy and beautiful, so I know that by putting our creative vibes together we’ll create something amazing,” say the twins.
The team will be working with Caymanite and the resulting design will be presented at the silent auction, which precedes the fashion show. Also on board for the event is Jamaica’s Dexter Pottinger, a fashion designer, video director and stylist. Dexter will be hosting a one-week runway walking clinic for the models, as well as styling them for the runway and buyer presentations.
These partnerships will allow Caymanian designers to receive feedback from experienced designers and build connections.
FRESH 2012 takes place in the Governor’s Ballroom at the Westin Casuarina Resort on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman.
