Giants escape Eagle death grip

The Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital Giants recently got a big win in youth flag football.

Chrissie Tomlinson squeezed out a 15-14 victory over the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association Eagles at Camana Bay’s sports field. The contest was part of the association’s The Security Centre Youth Flag Football League.

League coordinator Kyle Broadhurst states last Saturday’s contest came down to big plays.

“In the Eagles and Giants game, Joshua Whittaker had a fantastic game with four sacks,” Broadhurst said. “David Lee had a interception that kept the Giants in the game.

“Martin Webb also made big catches on the field. On the Giants’ last drive Jon-Mikol ‘JJ’ Rankin scored to put the game 14-13. The Giants decided to go for the win with a two-point conversion and Lee rushed the ball in.”

The contest was one of two matches in the senior division. In the other contest, the Zulu Warriors defeated the Security Centre Packers 16-0. Behind the likes of Jamaal Miller, the Warriors are now the only undefeated senior squad.

The Maples Raiders kept their flawless run going in the junior ranks with a 26-21 win over the Burger King Gators.

The Broadhurst Buccs beat the Walkers Wolverines 13-0 to pull within striking distance of Maples.

The Al Kebab Titans are unbeaten in the middle division thanks to a 13-6 victory over the SRS Steelers. Other results saw the association Colts top the Popeyes Saints 7-6 and the Dart Cayman Islands Dolphins edge out the Security Centre Patriots 14-13.

Broadhurst states the league saw another notable happening outside of the results.

“In other news, I’d like to give a special thanks to our newest referee, Dean Claassens, who joined our referee team this year. A former player in the league, we are delighted to have him to continue his participation in the league.”

League matches continue
this Saturday from 12noon.
