Several months ago, 11-year-old Holly Thompson ran into her mum’s home office with a huge smile on her face saying, “Please say yes!”, as she handed her mom the phone she had just answered.
On the line was Brenda Walsh, host and producer of the TV programs Kids’ Time and Kids’ Time Praise on 3ABN, inviting Holly to fly up to the 3ABN Sound Center to sing on a Christian children’s CD, and of course the answer was “yes”.
The original songs, 11 in total, were written by Danny Shelton, founder of the 3ABN network. Mr. Shelton’s and the children’s voices are featured on the CD to be named Love Rules, which was recorded in March and will be released by 1 June and distributed worldwide. Holly was fortunate to have been asked to perform solo parts, one of which is on the title song.
The children’s recording experience and the quality of the music were enhanced by having professionals with many years in the industry assist with the project. Yvonne Lewis, current general manager of 3ABN, assisted the children by giving them the harmonies that were to be recorded. Ms Lewis, also a Christian recording artist, has sung background vocals for such stars as the late Whitney Houston and the late Luther Vandross.
The sound engineer on the project was Bobby Bradley, a member of the famous Bradley family of Nashville who are known as the First Family of Music Row. His father and uncle are both members of the Country Music Hall of Fame for their contributions to the country music industry. The Bradley family opened the first recording studio on Nashville’s Music Row and recorded such stars as Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Marty Robbins and Ernest Tubb.
Holly enjoyed meeting and working with the other children on the project. They came from various places around the United States, and all were extremely talented singers.
Miss Brenda, as she is affectionately known on her programmes, heard Holly sing in 2010 at church while she was visiting Cayman on a speaking engagement. Holly was invited at that time to sing on the television programme tapings for Kids’ Time Praise in 2011. She travelled back again last month to tape another season of Kids’ Time and Kids’ Time Praise. Her next project is in May when she will be taped with Danny Shelton and the other children singing the Love Rules songs for promotion of the release of the CD and for a DVD to be distributed.
Holly is the daughter of Gene and Melisa Thompson and a member of the George Town Seventh Day Adventist church. She is a singing, piano, and guitar student at Cayman Music School. She also attends Grace Christian Academy and enjoys playing flute in the school concert band.
