Mobley studying to better Cayman

A Caymanian scholar wants to help the territory through tertiary education.

Kacey Mobley of George Town will attend Florida State University this fall to pursue her doctorate in sociology. Her research interests include social stratification, crime and deviance, and demography with a focus on the Caribbean region.

Her plan is to return home after university to teach at the college level, helping address social problems and advancing Cayman’s social development.

While at Florida State, Ms Mobley will complete a graduate assistantship for the 2012-13 academic year. Ms Mobley recently graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee with honours (magna cum laude), attaining a double major in sociology and political science, as well as a double minor in Spanish and religion.

Ms Mobley was also presented with a sociology award and nominated for a departmental award for behavioural and social sciences. During the past four years, Ms Mobley has received a Cayman government scholarship and Lee’s honours scholarship. During her time at Lee, Ms Mobley served as president of the sociology club and worked as a teaching assistant. She is a member of three honours societies – Alpha Kappa Delta, Pi Sigma Alpha, and Sigma Delta Pi.

  1. What an excellent role model for other young Caymanians. I’m so pleased that Ms. Mobley will be coming back to Cayman and sharing her insights and knowledge with others at the tertiary level. We need to shine the spotlight on the other young Caymanian scholars in our midst. Other excellent role models currently teaching at UCCI include Ericka Ebanks (Social Science), Ronald Ebanks (Mathematics and Science), and Katrina Jurn (Business Studies). Otherwise, reading the news headlines makes us look like an island of drunks and theives. Give us more news that makes us proud of our country!
