Roma are on Cayman netball’s biggest stage once again and hope the third time is the charm.
The reigning two-time national champions are competing for the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league trophy this Saturday, 2 June, at 6.30pm. Their opponents at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex will be All Stars A, sponsored by Central Cooling, a squad Roma beat for their previous two titles.
Both sides finished one-two atop the regular season standings with only one loss apiece. Roma booked its finals berth earlier this month by beating All Stars B, sponsored by Cayman National Bank. All Stars A would defeat Rising Stars A last week.
The clubs sport considerable offensive talent. Kay Copeland and Nicola Pringle carry the load for Roma while Pauline Bodden is the centre piece of a versatile All Stars attack that features the likes of Lisa Kemp and Stacy Reid-Satahoo.
Aside from the Roma-All Stars match-up, Saturday also sees the consolation finale between Flames Strikers and Unity A at 6.30pm. Flames defeated Unity B in the playoffs while Unity A defeated Rising Stars B on Tuesday. Flames have a balanced team with Marsha Campbell and Latoya Nixon steadying the offence while Kerry Scarlett leads Unity.
