Gillian Lee hopes to harvest young netball talent in Cayman.
The new technical director for local netball is hosting skill clinics for women aged 15-20 this summer. The sessions are backed by the Cayman Islands Netball Association and will take place across Grand Cayman.
Lee, who came to Cayman in late April from Australia, states she is looking for undiscovered talent.
“For the summer holiday period, with school out, I’ll be doing the clinics,” Lee said. “It’s for netballers to get to know me and for me to get to know how Cayman is and where the sport is at.”
Clinics take place every Tuesday in July starting on the 10th and wrapping up on the 31st. They continue into August, starting on the 7th and ending on the 28th. The Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts will serve as venue from 6.30-8.30pm.
Participants are advised to bring plenty of drinking water. An additional session for 11-14 year-olds is being planned for Thursday evenings during July and August.
The sessions are being used to identify a national youth team ahead of the seventh World Youth Netball Championships in Glasgow, Scotland on 22-31 August, 2013. The netball association intends to send at least one local squad to that competition.
