Little League wraps up for summer

Little League baseball had their end-of year celebration last Saturday, featuring championship and consolation games, yearly awards and the annual “Continue The Dream” fund-raising raffle draw.

All amounted to a successful day of fun for kids, coaches and families at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town. The day kicked off at 9am, with the Pony division’s playoff games on fields one, two and three, followed in succession by their end of season awards.

After them, the division A playoff games took place and their awards were given, followed by division AA and their awards. Then the marquee match-ups of the day were the girls softball finals and consolation games on fields one and two, while the boys division AAA finals took place on field three. All were followed subsequently by championship and individual awards.

After the coaches, kids and sponsors all received their awards and Little League’s gratitude was extended towards them, the annual end of year raffle draw took place with some extensive cash prizes being handed out. The recipients and prizes were as follows:

First: $10,000, Susan Wilson; second: $7,500, Sangeethia Love; third: $2,500, Maggie Ebanks; fourth: $2,500, Jesse Basdeo; fifth: $2,500, Milena Conolly.

The day was fun for everyone. Kids, coaches and their families enjoyed a full day of food and baseball and all left happily with the season coming to an end. Little League baseball had a successful regular season and great things are expected in 2013.

Before the start of next year’s season, however, is a fall League. The fall league was first introduced over this last offseason and turned out to be a great success.

It is fully expected to be hosted by the Cayman Islands Little League again, beginning some time in August and running through till just before the Christmas break. Players of all ages won’t have to wait until the summer months to play baseball this year as the Fields of Dreams will be used all year round.

Kids, coaches and volunteers are all urged to continue coming out to support, play and be involved in the game of baseball in the coming seasons. Little League is always looking for more volunteers as the 2013 season is just around
the corner.
