Update: Royal Cayman Islands Police detectives are searching for three masked men who held up staff at the Cayman National Bank and made off with cash Thursday morning.
About 9.42am, 911 received a report that three men, all armed with what appeared to be firearms, had entered the Buckingham Square branch of Cayman National Bank.
Police said the gunmen threatened staff before running from the premises with a sum of cash. The suspects entered their getaway vehicle, a white Toyota Windom, and as they began to drive off from the scene they collided with an armoured cash van.
Police said the the collision blocked the suspects’ exit from the car park and they then ran off from the car towards the Esterley Tibbetts Highway.
They dropped some of the cash as they made their escape.
The suspects were then seen to enter a red Chevrolet Equinox which drove along the highway towards West Bay.
RCIPS noted the following in a statement to the press Thursday afternoon: “On receipt of the initial call several police units were immediately deployed to the area. Officers, acting on the information received about the red car set up road checks and carried out extensive searches for the vehicle. A short time after the robbery the car was recovered in the West Bay area. Officers are currently carrying out enquiries at two addresses in West Bay in connection with the ongoing enquiry.
“There have been some suggestions that officers took between 20 – 30 minutes to attend the scene of the bank. Initially the RCIPS had responded to those concerns by confirming that the first uniformed officer attended the bank 16 minutes after the initial call.
“However, having reviewed the incident, we can now confirm that two plain clothes officers were on scene within 8 minutes of the initial 911 call. These officers attended the scene while operational staff set up road blocks and undertook other operational duties relating to the incident.”
The suspects were described as follows:
1 5’8” in height wearing long jean pants, white shirt, a reflective vest and a yellow/ orange hard hat
2 5’11” in height, dark brown complexion and shoulder length dreadlocks. He was wearing a white/ light coloured shirt, dark pants, and a camouflage cap
3 5’9”- 5’10” in height, wearing dark clothing, a yellow/ orange hard hat and spoke with a Jamaican accent.
Anyone who has any information regarding the robbery should contact George Town police station on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477(TIPS).

I understand the car used is a White Windom and the Police have the car as it was blooked in by the Armored Van! I hope they catch them this has got to stop!
Wow, the Lord sure does work in mysterious ways eh? Today He came by way of a huge armoured van! *ROTFL @ these robbers* I hope they lost every dollar while fleeing on foot – may they be caught swiftly, and may the sentences be long and strong! Thanks for the laugh!
I just love the saying Not today Bobo lol.
Will never get mad at the armored trucks again for not parking properly outside banks!! Well done you guys.
Yet again, criminals show how stupid they are. Yet they will be defended in court by well-paid lawyers (probably paid from public funds), will plead all sorts of nonsensical defences and pleas in mitigation, and appeal as far as possible (again, probably at public expense).
Time to reintroduce hard work (formerly hard labour, no difference) for those convicted of criminal offences. No more TV programmes, privileges and special visits (in the USA, prisoners are getting their women pregnant!, just plain hard work and minimal comforts. And sentences given must be served in full; reductions must not be automatic.
The lesson must be that crime does not pay, does not earn you a soft berth with good food and all the trimmings of Human Rights.
Human Rights must be EARNED by decent social behaviour.
But Crime is down ! Anyway good job on blocking the robbers. I think the Cayman Gov. needs to add on to the prison at this pace of crime!
Thieves are so stupid. Why didn’t they use the armored truck as a getaway vehicle? That would have been a profitable haul.
This is just too funny. These guys will be the laughing stock of their whacky community. And once inside the big house it will be relentless. I am actually glad they used guns because they will be gone bye-bye for a long time and nobody got hurt. Morons are fun to watch.

I swear…I can’t stop laughing on this one LOL !!!
I’ve got a suggestion for Cayman.
Tom Cruise made a big name for himself…and Cayman, from the movie ‘The Firm’, but that script can’t even begin to compete with the everyday crime scenes of Cayman now.
Hollywood crime movie script writers can’t come up with anything better than this !
Someone in Cayman needs to contact Hollywood right now and sell this story…and employ the criminals to act out their roles…after they’ve been sentenced, of course.
This way, everyone makes a change off this fiasco…even the morons of the RCIPS.
This is way too good a story to just let get by…
And when the money’s been made…
Maybe the RCIPS can buy an armoured vehicle of their own !
Come on now, for Cayman, this is certainly worth a try !
