The Junior Achievement Annual Awards banquet took place on 18 May at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort.
This year saw a record number of attendees, which included Cayman Islands Governor Duncan Taylor, Cabinet Minister Rolston Anglin, President and CEO of JA Americas and Asia Pacific Linda Rimer and the keynote speaker and YCLA recipient Garth Arch.
The evening started with a view of the achiever’s company reports and products, while Miguel Escalante photographed the achiever’s in their finery, free of charge.
As the evening unfolded and Garth Arch took to the stage he shared a rare story of entrepreneur Christopher Columbus, who went on to achieve greatness in his life while facing adversity from others to believe in his dream. The evening culminated in the awards presentation for the Officer’s of the Year, Sales Person of the Year, Company of the Year and the Next Generation Leadership Award recipients.
“The success of the year can be attributed to the participation of the students and the dedication of the over 120 volunteer Advisors from 12 companies/organisations who have sponsored the programme this year,” said Teresa Owen-Foster, programme director and notary public. “Each year, we see thought provoking products, new marketing concepts, trials and errors and a great sense of accomplishment for all involved. Just ask any Achiever and they can tell you the experience has transformed the way they think about their own futures.”
