The latest Cayman National Tennis 10s event took place recently at the tennis courts at Camana Bay. Run by Coach Noel Watkins of Cayman Tennis Academy, the more casual format attracted 19 children of a wider age range than usual.
“Our youngest player was three years-old and we had a lot of new faces show up, which is great,” said Jeremy Superfine, Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands President. “We decided to open the court to all under 10s in order to attract more children and introduce them to the Cayman National Tennis 10s programme.
The next in the series of the Cayman National Tennis 10s will be held at the Courts at the Ritz Carlton on Saturday, 29 September. Judging by the enthusiastic response from the children this time around, the series figures to grow in popularity.
Superfine states the goal of the programme is growing interest in the sport.
“The events, which are normally held at the Courts at the Ritz Carlton, are a fun introduction to competitive tennis for children aged under 10. With rain postponing the fourth event in the series, we took the opportunity to have a more casual approach this time, making the event about just getting on court and playing fun games.
“We want as many children as possible to get involved and try tennis, after all, Cayman is the perfect tennis destination.”
