Editorial for 12 September: Kudos go to Youth Flex show

If you’re looking for something to do from 4 to 5pm today,
tune in to 89.9FM and hear what our young people are up to.

The Youth Flex show aired its 500th broadcast last Wednesday
and has been going strong for 32 seasons.

Congratulations are in order to the young people – past and
present – who have made The Flex such a success as well as James Myles, the
Youth Services Unit, Radio Cayman and various sponsors throughout the years.

The Caymanian Compass believes it is important to recognise
the contributions young people such as those at Youth Flex make in our society.

We’ve proudly watched over the years as Youth Flex
presenters have become more confident and sure of themselves, growing up to be
leaders in our community.

Even in the best of times, adolescence is a period of
immense uncertainty and apprehension. It is at that volatile stage in life when
young people are struggling to discover themselves, make vital decisions and
embark on a voyage that will profoundly shape their futures.

That’s why it is so important that we have entities like
Youth Flex to engage youngsters and help them grow in positive ways.

The young people of today are tomorrow’s movers, shakers and
leaders of the Cayman Islands. We must do all that we can to empower them and
help them make the right decisions while grooming them for successful lives.

Six years ago, the Caymanian Compass worked with Youth Flex
to produce a weekly page devoted to young people in the Cayman Islands called
Cay Young. Mr. Myles has said it’s something Youth Flex is considering again.
It’s an idea we welcome with open arms.

Congratulations to the Youth Flex show for making it to the
500th broadcast mark.

If you’ve never listened to the show, tune in.

The topics and the guests are varied and always interesting.

If you encounter any of the people involved in Youth Flex,
give them a pat on the back for a job well done.
