Reigning Miss Cayman Islands maintains active role in training

Reigning Miss Cayman Islands Lindsay Japal has been busy preparing for Miss Universe, while at the same time representing the western Caribbean territory during various international conferences and participating in several local events.

Gaining international experience during the last few months, Ms Japal attended the Miami Swim Show, where she represented “Tosca Delfino”, who created a swimsuit line exclusively for the Cayman Islands. In addition, Ms Japal recently attended a Cayman Islands Department of Tourism sponsored event, “Toronto’s Most Stylish Reader”, enabling her to meet and greet individuals in the fashion industry.

She has also been training with former Miss USA Chelsea Cooley and Lu Sierra in New York for the upcoming Miss Universe Pageant.

While in New York City, Ms Japal stayed with Robert, Niva and Jewel Donohue, who reside part time in New York City and sponsored Lindsay’s accommodation more than once. Miss Cayman Committee Chairwoman Lynn Bodden said, “A sincere thank you to the Donohues for their generosity. They not only welcomed her into their home, but also escorted her to the Miss Universe wardrobe fitting, which was above and beyond our expectations.”

Locally, our reigning queen has participated in community events such as the Caribbean International Auto Show, Le Charme Fashion Show, the Cayman Islands Humane Society fundraiser, Kiwanis Bike-a-Thon, the Cayman Heart Fund luncheon, the Red Cross fashion show, Honouring Women’s Month, and a Lean-On-Me fundraiser in Cayman Brac. She has also enjoyed reading to children and assisting organisations to raise community awareness.

In October, Ms Japal will travel to the Bahamas with Consolidated Water Company to assist with their exhibition, and she will also attend the National Business Aviation Association Conference in Orlando, Florida with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands.

“Local and international recognition is important for our Miss Cayman Islands to take the next step in the right direction. By meeting with key contacts in the world of Pageantry, Lindsay has secured a bright future for herself and has placed Cayman on an international stage,” said Cayman Islands Premier McKeeva Bush.

On 11 December, Ms Japal will compete for the title of Miss Universe, representing the Cayman Islands at this world-renowned international event.

“Lindsay has made us all so proud, and we wish her all the best in her endeavours. She has become the talk of the town on many pageant websites and has done a fantastic job in representing the Cayman Islands at many events. Keep up the great work,” Ms Bodden said.
