Ham it up for charity, Cayman

It’s a win-win situation when the act of you indulging in a delicious island pig roast helps to ensure that children from Cayman’s poorest families get fed this year.

Feed our Future, the charity that works to provide children in need with school lunches, is holding a Pig Roast fundraiser this Saturday, 6 October.

It’s all island casual and for those who didn’t register and purchase tickets in advance, they can still just show up from 6.30pm on the beach just north of Royal Palms and buy tickets at the door.

Taking an island luau theme, it’s going to be a fun, informal beach party. There will be live music from Bona Fide plus a DJ and plenty of dancing on the beach. A number of restaurants – Karoo, Abacus, LUCA, Frosted Robin, Mise en Place, Chicken! Chicken!, Agua, Michael’s, Ortanique, the Ritz-Carlton, Icoa, Karma and Edoardo’s – are all lending their support to the cause by providing a variety of fresh, light dishes, which will be passed around during the early part of the evening.

Then, talented chef and Feed our Future board member Anthony Lawson will take on Joey Hew of Bon Vivant in a pig roast challenge. Each will prepare a pig, plus all the trimmings and those attending will vote for the tastiest, most succulent and mouth-watering of the two.

There will also be an open bar and prizes donated by supporting businesses, which will be raffled off during the evening.

This is Feed our Future’s second fundraiser. Last year, the event raised $15,000, which translates to more than 2,300 lunches for hungry children. This year they hope to better that, as they already have 140 children for whom they are providing lunch assistance.
