United for World Run

The Cayman Islands celebrates World Run Day again next week.

The Phoenix Athletic Club brings together residents who are representatives of the many nations present locally on Sunday 21 October.

World Run Day was conceived by New Yorker Bill McDermott in 1999 to promote friendship and fitness worldwide and Cayman has participated each year.

McDermott actually travelled here to take part in the action some years ago. The five-kilometre run/walk welcomes all ages and abilities and encourages everyone to represent their particular country by costume or national symbols.

The course begins and ends at Harbour Place on Harbour Drive, opposite Paradise Restaurant at 5pm. Registration will be there from 4-4.45pm. *

Entry fee is $15 and includes the chance for performance and random prizes. An award will also be presented for best national costume.

The theme for World Run Day 2012 is Create, Dedicate, Run, Belong.
