Nutrition bars, cookies recalled

Foster’s Food Fair IGA has voluntarily pulled products off its shelves after recalls from two different companies.

Gone are Ella’s Organic Baby Cookies Apples and Ginger and Ella’s Organic Baby Cookies Milk and Vanilla as well as Crunch thinkThin nutrition bars.

The Organic Baby Cookies Apples and Ginger come in 5/3.80 size with UPC Code 845901-000533 with a best by date of May 16, 2013; the Ellas Organic Baby Cookies Milk and Vanilla come in the same size and have UPC Code 845901-000526 with a best by date of May 7, 2013, and May 16, 2013.

This product is voluntarily being recalled by the manufacturer due to consumer reports of mold growth on some of the cookies.

The nutrition bars come in sizes of 40 grams and have UPC Code 753656708430 with various dates of expiration.

The voluntary recall was initiated because the bars may contain blanched roasted peanuts supplied by Sunland , Inc. to CEF. The decision was made as the result of the expanded recall of peanut butter, nut butters and peanut products by Sunland because of potential contamination with Salmonella.

Salmonella bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. Consumers with the above symptoms should consult their physician.

“While no illnesses associated with any of these products have been reported to date, as part of our commitment to the safety and quality of our products we have decided to issue a voluntary recall,” reads a statement from Foster’s.

Customers who have purchased these products are advised to return the affected product to their Foster’s Food Fair IGA of purchase for a full refund.
